La Tanya is trained in flamenco and classical Spanish dancing and has taught from New York, Los Angeles to South Africa.
She has also taught Spanish language classes to broaden students’ cultural knowledge in understanding of Flamenco and Spanish culture.
She started her professional dance career at the age of 15 after being spotted by the internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Antonio del Castillo.
She subsequently moved to Spain to further her flamenco dance studies at Amor de Dios Studios, becoming completely fluent in Spanish and expanding her dancing career to tV and feature movies.
She toured the USA with the Jose Greco Dance Company and diversified into dance theatre management. She also took time to study screenwriting in Los Angeles, California and taught flamenco in New York at Steps on Broadway and Fazils.
In 1996 she returned to South Africa and established SoloFLAMENCO which offers classes, corporate entertainment for companies like Old Mutual, VW Barons, Caledon Casino and Spa, Citadel, and UCT Business School and entertains audiences at venues like The Masque Theatre, Alliance Francaise and The Nassau Theatre.
Rae-Dawn, also known as ‘La Pimienta’, joined the SoloFLAMENCO performing company in 2015 and was promoted to lead dancer and soloist by 2016.
Besides teaching regular classes at SoloFLAMENCO, she also manages the full-time roll of assistant rehearsal direction at the performing company.
She studied ballet, drama and Spanish dancing for 16 years in Gauteng and went on to obtain her BA (HONS) Sport Science at the University of Pretoria.
Subsequently, Rae-Dawn moved to Cape Town where she runs the innovative KinetiKids programme where kids learn and exercise through play, interaction and self discovery and established a netball academy.
Rae-Dawn plays a key cast and crew role at SoloFLAMENCO and is completely involved from pre-to-post production of every show.
